Must See

Beautiful places of the island that make you love it!

1. Grikos Bay
Grikos Bay has been designated as one of the most beautiful bays in the world. It is just 4 km from the port of Patmos, called Skala, and it is one of the most picturesque locations of the island.
Grikos village is built on a bay that has a splendid view of the Kalikatsou rock (in Petra beach – small crows). Kalikatsou rock was once believed to be a site of hermitage during the time of Osios Christodoulos.
In Grikos, tourists get the best of both worlds – that is, from the organized beaches with umbrellas and sun beds to the more tranquil and quiet beaches while the taverns and the restaurants of the area offer great greek cuisine. At taverna “Stamatis” please order, among the others, fried potatoes (they are tasteful and they have wavy shape) as well as “mousakas” (one of the most traditional greek foods).
On the other hand, if you choose to eat Italian cuisine, visit Diogenis Restaurant. It offers pizza and perfect spaghetti al forno. Otherwise, you may visit taverna “Flisvos” which is within a walking distance from Grikos and has marvelous view of Petra area and greek traditional cuisine.
Keep in mind that by walking across the beach of Grikos you will reach Kalikatsou rock and Petra area in about 20 minutes.
2. Vagia (or Vaya)
Vagia is a beautiful secluded beach with crystal translucent blue water. It is sheltered from north winds and has beautiful rocky formations around.
It is not organised and there is only a small café up to the hill where you can enjoy the view of the sea and delicious homemade breakfast, salads and cakes. At this place must taste the chocolate cake made by the owner of the café.
Leaving from Vagia and driving to the North side of Patmos, called Lampi, you will find the taverna “Leonidas” at the location of Koumaria. There, you will have a great lunch or dinner with fish or meat depending on your mood. The pumpkin fritters are something more than delicious.
The view from this place is wonderful as you may enjoy the view of the deep Aegean Sea (“IKARIO PELAGOS”) .
It is continued…
